Why Digestion is so Important

          The values of proper nutrition have been well documented for years. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out we cannot live without food. But the controversies over exactly what foods, how they are prepared, when they should be eaten, which diet according to religion, whose body type, blood type, and fad hypes are legend. No matter what nutritional therapy you choose, there is one fact that cannot be denied…….

          Not only is undigested food not used by the body,  it may and often does become a poison and a toxin if not eliminated properly. This is one reason why Nutripathy places its main focus on digestion, assimilation and elimination. Old time nutritionists and naturopaths always said…..

STOMACH IS MOTHER TO ALL SYSTEMS OF THE BODY

          The stomach feeds the immune system, the hormonal system, the energy system, the repair system, etc., etc. The stomach ( we are talking about the entire digestive system.) nourishes every system in the body.

          The digestive system is a doorway to the outside world where we get our nutrients. It is a continuous tube that begins in the mouth and ends at the anus. This hollow passageway allows in what is outside of the body, takes what it needs and passes the rest back out without ever letting it directly  touch our internal systems. It is like a stack of tires. The tire being our body, the hole being the digestive tract, and our intestinal lining would be as if you lined the hole with a fine mesh or nylon stocking.

           If we want calcium to go to our bones, we cannot rub it on our bones. It must go through the digestive system. The same is true for B vitamins for our nervous system, protein for our muscles, fatty acids for our hormones. Nutrients cannot be rubbed on different parts of the body to be absorbed naturally.  Nutrients must pass through this doorway called the digestive system first. And for nutrients to pass through properly to the liver and into the blood stream, several digestive requirements must be met or a multitude of various symptoms may arise.

ALLERGIES

          Anything that passes through this tube undigested will cause an allergic reaction. Anywhere from a slight increase in white blood cells (WBCs), an increase in heart rate, drowsiness, tears, sneezing, etc., to full anaphylactic shock and death. This may occur immediately upon ingestion, or up to 48 hours later! This is just one of the many reasons for maintaining a healthy digestive tract and, just as important, using it correctly.

                    The biggest offenders are undigested proteins. Pollen, dog dander or undigested protein foods (milk, eggs, meat, soy proteins, etc..).These are either inhaled or ingested and not digested. There are many factors affecting the proper digestion of food. The biggest offender is low (HCL) hydrochloric acid production. You will see that HCL initiates the breakdown of proteins in the stomach. Taking antihistamines is bailing the boat instead of fixing the hole. In most cases, correcting your digestion is repairing the hole.

Mucosal Immunity (MI)

IMMUNE RESPONSE BY DIGESTION

“Again, proper digestion regulates the proper immune response.”

The mucosal lining contains 80% of your immune system when you eat. This Mucosal Immunity (MI) is your first line of defense. Anything getting by the MI will trigger either a Cell Mediated Response (TH1) which attacks yeast, bacteria or virus in the tissues/cells or a Humoral Response (TH2) which attacks foreign proteins or undigested food in the foods in the blood. A TH2 response lowers the TH1 response, which goes after infections, and is not the correct immune response for a person with Candida or other chronic infections. Again, proper digestion regulates the proper immune response.

THE IMMUNE SYSTEM and DIGESTION

The Digestive system determines the type of immune response.

There are Three basic immune responses. I am simplifying .

The Mucosal Immune Response (MI), the Cell Mediated response (TH1) and Humoral Immune response. (TH2).

Look at your digestive tract as a mucus lined tube from your head to your rectum. Over 80% of the immune system is in the Mucosa of the digestive tract, from your nose to your rectum, when you are eating.  It is the first line of defense to anything from outside the body trying to enter your systems. This includes bacteria, virus, fungus, environmental pollutants or food.

Picture your mucosa as a silk stocking imbedded with white blood cells and immuno globulins. These defenders will label, attack and remove any perceived pathogen, as a toxin, bacteria, fungus , virus or undigested food proteins that enters your system and tries to get through into the blood. If candida has eaten holes in the lining, (Leaky Gut )  it will look more like a fish net stocking, allowing pathogens through it into the blood.

    Undigested food is perceived as a toxin. 

Humoral Immunity (TH2)

If this Mucosal Immunity does not stop the perceived pathogen, a Humoral Immune response (TH2) is then activated. This TH2 will tag the invader as an antigen, create an antibody inflammatory response and deposit the invader to the lymph system. There, the CD4 helper cells decide what type of response will continue.[ TH2 will also suppress the TH1 response. ] The body has only a limited amount of energy to expend and will prioritize. Getting any perceived toxin/pathogen in the blood before it can imbed in a tissue cell is the priority. Undigested food is perceived as a toxin.

The TH1 response is the most effective way of dealing with chronic infections

Cell Mediated Immunity (TH1)

The Cell Mediated Immunity response destroys infections inside the cells or destroys the infected cell as well as the pathogen, such as Candida, herpes, Epstein Barr, HIV, cancer, etc..

The TH1 response is the most effective way of dealing with chronic infections.

The Challenge

Three times a day, or every time they eat, most people are suppressing their TH1 response by dumping undigested food proteins into the blood through a leaky gut. This is why when antifungals, anti-virals, antibacterials are stopped before completely eradicating the pathogen, the infections comes back, often with an increased resistance to the therapy.

“Stomach” meaning “digestion is the first line of defense and offense as prevention. A well nourished body is capable of handling all attacks with the proper immune responses.

 THE MUCOSAL LINING  

The mucous membrane lines the passages and cavities communicating with the air and outside environment, consisting of a surface layer of epithelium, a basement membrane and an underlying layer of connective tissue (lamina propria). It extends from the nose to the rectum lining the hollow organs and cavities of the body. It is like a spider web where one location is stimulated, the entire membrane reacts. E.g., an offensive food in the stomach, like pasteurized milk, will cause a runny nose.  An offensive smell can cause indigestion or vomiting.

Mucous membranes are usually colonized with friendly bacteria, e.g., lactobacillus acidophilus and bifidis that discourage colonization of pathogens. When these protectors are killed by immunosuppressive drugs and foods, (e.g., white sugar and foods made with it) antibiotics, stress, chlorine, food preservatives,  chemicals, environmental toxins, etc., pathogens like Candida albicans can attach to the membrane and then overgrowths occur.

Candida can then mycillize into a branch like form and eat holes in the mucosa, mutate into a vacuole to travel through the blood and reattach to any weakened mucous membrane, ears, nose, throat, vagina, rectum and organ linings.

These holes create a “leaky gut” syndrome and also allow partially digested food, foreign proteins and pathogens to enter the blood as well, causing a needed TH2 immune response. If the Candida lodges into the tissues, a TH1 response is then needed.

Unfortunately, if you are fighting an infection with a TH1 response, the TH2 response will diminish or completely stop the TH1 response, depending on your energy levels.

This is where the rubber meets the road. Undigested food is insult to injury, several times a day and must be stopped. Any food coming out of those holes must be completely digested to minimize the TH2 response.

REBUILDING THE MUCOSA

First the pathogen making the holes must be stopped. It is usually Candida Albicans mycellizing its way through the lining.   Candida has the same binding sites on the mucosa as the normal inhabitants, L. Acidophilus and Bifidis, and simply by increasing the intake of the friendly bacteria, Candida will not have binding sites to attach to.

 L. Bifidis and other probiotics actually kill off candida by producing hydrogen peroxide.

Oxygen therapies are the most effective eradicators of Candida that do no harm. 

MMS and Dioxychloride used with colloidal silver and the Yeast Control in Seven Days diet are the fastest and safest programs to reduce and control the levels of yeast to normal levels in the large intestine.

Ellagic acid inhibits the enzyme gyrase, which bacteria use to coil their DNA, inhibits the enzyme integrase, which many viruses use to enter our cells and replicate, inhibits Chitin-Synthase, which fungi use to build their cell walls and kills certain parasites. Ellagic acid stimulates apoptosis, the pathway by which abnormal and pathological cells are directed to self destruct.

Next, the membrane must be rebuilt. It consists of proteins such as n-acety-glucosamine and mucopolysaccharides which are supplied by completely digested foods, reassembled in the liver and delivered to the damaged areas.  The liver must be cleansed periodically in this toxic soup we live in.

Deglycyrrhizinated licorice (DGL) provides time-tested, safe nutritional support for the mucosal lining of the stomach and intestines.* DGL boosts the production of mucin, a compound that coats and protects the digestive tract to provide immediate relief for occasional stomach discomfort.*

The foods with the nutrients that rebuild the mucosa are whole leaf aloe vera, raw butter and buttermilk for butyrate.

Butyrate is produced by bifido probiotics acting on fiber and is essential to produce mucin, the mucous membrane and to rebuild the cell walls of the intestine.

Fat soluble Vit-A, retinol (not beta-carotene) for  cellular structural integrity. Vitamin A regulates T-cell production and apoptosis.

Vitamin A plays a vital regulating role in the immune system also. Vitamin A deficiency leads to a loss of ciliated cells in the lung, an important first line defense against pathogens. Vitamin A promotes mucin secretion and microvilli formation by mucosa, including the gastrointestinal tract mucosa.

  Vit-A foods  are fish liver oils, egg yolks, raw milk, liver pate, cheddar cheese, cream. (Vit A as Beta-carotene requires adequate amounts of Vit-B to convert to retinol) and amino acids from completely digested proteins.

If a person’s liver is not too high in nitrate nitrogen, supplements such as liquid fat soluble Vit-A, butyrate, and amino acids can speed up the healing.

Xeneplex suppositories contain 200mg of caffeine and 200 mg. of glutathione via trans mucosal applicationand are thus another way of applying caffeine to the liver other than the coffee enema.

Take probiotics that include Bifidis Longum and Bifidis Plantarum to promote a TH1 protective response, as well as the L. Acidophilus and Bifidis which will start coating the existing lining as well as the new tissue.

Food sources-Fresh wheat germ, wheat germ oil, all raw or sprouted seeds, nuts and grains. Eggs. Extra virgin vegetable oils and green leafy vegetables.

Glutamine and Selenium

Damaged tissue is susceptible to free radical destruction. Increasing glutathione levels with glutamine and selenium foods will provide immune protection and stimulate TH1 responses.

Selenium foods-  Brewer’s Yeast, Brazil nuts, sea water, kelp, garlic, mushrooms, seafood, milk, eggs, cereals and most vegetables.

Glutamine is an amino acid derived from complete digestion of proteins.

 MAX GXL is the best supplement to use orally to raise glutathione levels. N-acetyl-cysteine in supplement form is a precursor to glutathione and MAX GXL has the best cellular delivery system.
